English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

What is the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)?

Mammoth Unified School District schools establish an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) to provide families of English Learners with an important voice in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs and services for English Learner students at their school.

ELAC advises the principal and school staff on matters related to English Learner programs and services. The committee provides a meaningful opportunity for families to share their experiences, identify student and family needs, and contribute to efforts to improve outcomes for English Learners.

In accordance with state requirements, ELAC has responsibility for advising and assisting the school in the following areas:

• English Learner programs and the school plan: Advising the principal and school staff on the development of the school's plan for English Learner students and providing recommendations to the School Site Council (SSC) regarding the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

• Schoolwide needs assessment: Participating in the school's needs assessment to identify the academic, language, and other needs of English Learner students.

• Parent and family engagement: Providing information and ideas about how the school can make parents and guardians aware of the importance of regular school attendance and how families can support their students' success.

• English Learner program and services: Learning about and providing input on the programs, services, and supports provided to English Learner students at the school.

• District representation: Having the opportunity to elect at least one ELAC member to serve as the school's representative on the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).

MUSD values the partnership of our English Learner families and welcomes their participation in ELAC. Family perspectives and experiences are an important part of creating effective programs and supports for English Learner students.

Who Can Participate?

Parents and guardians of English Learners are encouraged to participate in ELAC. Your voice and experience are an important part of ensuring that English Learner programs and services meet the needs of students and families.

ELAC provides an opportunity for families to:

• Learn more about English Learner programs and services at their school

• Ask questions and share feedback about their student's experience

• Provide input on school plans, goals, programs, and services for English Learners

• Help identify the academic and other needs of English Learner students and families

• Share ideas for strengthening family engagement and student attendance

• Participate in the selection of the school's DELAC representative

• Work collaboratively with school staff to support student success

Parents and guardians of English Learners also have the opportunity to elect the parent members of ELAC. Schools will provide information about the election process and opportunities to participate.

Meeting Information

ELAC meetings provide opportunities for families to learn about the school's English Learner programs and services, receive updates, provide input, and discuss the needs of English Learner students.

All parents and guardians of English Learners are welcome and encouraged to participate. Translation and language support will be provided as needed to support meaningful family participation.

• September 9, 2026, 5:00pm - 6:00pm

• November 4, 2026, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

• January 20, 2027, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

• March 10, 2027, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

• May 12, 2027, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
